Although the central government has eliminated the rule that an e-pass is required for interstates, some states, including Himachal Pradesh, have still demanded it. But it isn’t. The essential decision was made at a meeting of the cabinet chaired by Jai Ram Thakur, Himachal’s leader. Because of the drastic increase in the number of cases involving coronavirus and deaths, the government has agreed not to restart public transit buses between states.
There was no debate at the cabinet meeting on the opening of schools and colleges in the province, the Minister said.
This relief comes around nearly seven months after the travel restrictions on the outbreak of coronavirus were imposed by the tourist-dependent Himalayans. As the lockout begins to easing, before accessing the state, tourists have to register for an e-pass.

Himachal Pradesh closed his border five months ago to outsiders. The state agreed in August to relax the tourists’ lock-down requirements and launched the e-pass and registration scheme.
It allowed tourist entry to revive state tourism as the biggest benefit sector of a beautiful hill state with COVID-19 negative test results.
After almost six months of suspension, the State reopened temples on 10 September. Since then, devotees have been drawn by Naina Devi from Bilaspur, Balak Nath from Hamirpur, Chintpurni from Una, Brajeshwari Devi, Jwalaji and Chamunda Devi from Kangra, Bhimakali and Hateshwari from Shimla.

Safety Guidelines for Tourists
- On their mobile phone, visitors need to download the Aarogya Setu App.
- There is no need to register the movement of people among the States. Such motions will not be subject to different permission/approval / previous checks.
- Following the guidelines/advisory provided by Revenue Department – Emergency Management Cell and Health and Family Welfare Department, the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, HP has released the Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) for the opening of tourist units in the State.
- The visitor should follow the safe and responsible tourism guidelines.
